Counterfeit spikes before the holidays: a preparation timeline

Counterfeit listings surge six to eight weeks before peak shopping season. Brands that prepare in September remove listings in days; brands that start in December wait weeks.

Why the spike is predictable

Counterfeit sellers follow demand curves. Listings for giftable products climb steeply before the holidays, and seller accounts are purpose-built for the season, then abandoned in January.

Eight weeks out: registrations and portals

Confirm your trademark certificates, platform portal accounts, and evidence templates are current. Portal approval queues lengthen in the fall; an unapproved brand account in November is a season lost.

Four weeks out: baseline monitoring

Establish daily scans of your core product names and images before the spike, so new listings stand out against a known baseline instead of hiding in noise.

In season: speed over perfection

During peak weeks, file on the strongest evidence you have rather than waiting for complete documentation. A listing removed in three days during December is worth more than a perfect filing that clears in January.
